J. W. PHILLIPS, died on Sunday - Death Comes to Highly Respected Man Near Michigantown James W. Phillips, well known and highly respected resident of Michigan township died at the family home near Michigantown, at 2 o'clock Sunday morning, death resulting from a complication of ailments following an illness of three years. The deceased, a native of Montgomery county, was a son of Samuel and Mary PHILLIPS, and was born April 12, 1851, was past 77 years of age. All his early life had been spent in the vicinity of his birth, but in young manhood he came to this county, where he had resided for many years. On September 8, 1876, he was united in marriage with Mary QUICK, who besides three sons survive. They are William PHILLIPS, Melvin PHILLIPS and Philip PHILLIPS. Two sons preceded him in death. He is also survived by one brother, John PHILLIPS, and by two sisters, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. On January 18, 1885, he became a member of the Friendship Christian Church and was active member of that church until 1916, when he transferred his membership to the Hopewell church, of which he was an active member. He had followed farming as a vocation and had been successful and progressive in his work and had made for himself a wide acquaintance of friends. He was familiarly known throughout the vicinity in which he resided as "Uncle Jim" and was held in highest esteem by all with whom he was acquainted. Funeral services will be from the Hopewell church at 10:30 o'clock this morning. The services will be conducted by the Rev. George Foster and Rev. Frank Lineberry, with interment in the Hopewell Cemetery.
